OLD TOWN is one of few revived historic Main Street old west towns. It is small and quaint and yet has a beauty all her own. Still a best kept secret, away from the big city hustle bustle, Cottonwood is central to most places in Arizona and is the heart of the Verde Valley.
Its colorful history of bootlegging and mysterious underground tunnels, the 1920's-30's prohibition era buildings along Main Streets historic district feature a unique array of funky shops & their eclectic store keepers, antique malls, artisans galleries, Native American crafts, jewelry, pottery, beads and cafes with outside patios, fine dining, coffee shops, wine tasting rooms, pubs, bars and more, and all within a block walking distance either way from the Historic Cottonwood Hotel.
Cottonwood is a great area for photo buffs. The Tuzigoot National Monument hovers over Main Street as it watches over the Verde River and the old haunted jail. Behind the old jail you can hike to the Verde River along the Jail Trail to the rivers greenway, one of the world’s rarest Fremont Cottonwood/Goodding-Willow Riparian habitats. This one mile strip of the Dead Horse Ranch State Park leads to over 200 known bird species, fishing, swimming, canoeing, picnicking, biking, the parks trails system to Indian ruins and much, much more. Not many towns have this unique amenity in their own backyard! Also adjoining the Verde River Greenway within walking distance is the City of Cottonwood's Riverfront Park with picnicking, ball fields and skate park!
Verde Village is adjacent to the city of Cottonwood, was developed in 1970 and is presently unincorporated. It's mail is still addressed to Cottonwood with the same zip code of 86326. It is a part of Yavapai county.
