Jerome, Arizona Things to Do... The Cottonwood Hotel is just 6 miles down the hill from Jerome. For places to stay, it is one of the closest hotels and the most historic in Cottonwood, located in Old Town. It has one pet/dog-friendly suite.
Jerome is a touristy, fun and an artsy community. Historic homes and old buildings cling to the edge of the narrow winding scenic State Route/Historic 89A going up and over Mingus Mountain to Prescott. Once a copper mining town during its heyday, Jerome later became a ghost town. Today it is a bustling tourist district. There are a couple of winery wine tasting rooms, great shops, a fine selection of galleries and restaurants. The Spirit Room is a popular place.
I always recommend exploring their most popular event, the 1st Saturday of the month, Art Walk. You can print out the Jerome Art Walk brochure HERE.
Jerome Gold King Mine
Jerome is well worth the visit. It is rich with history. Of its main attractions the awesome panoramic views off the cliff sides are every photographers dream.
The Gold King Mine Museum is a very interesting place to visit. Make sure to get Pedro the mule to talk to you. He's a real character. You just gotta' love him!
Jerome, Arizona is known for haunted hotels...
If you like sleeping with ghosts in a haunted hotel, many stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel. It was once a hospital, where lots of people died. Jerome hotels, motels and lodging fill up fast. Your next best choice is the historic Cottonwood Hotel.
The historic Cottonwood Hotel is less than 6 miles down the hill from Jerome and shares every bit of character and more. Stay where John Wayne romanced and Mae West stayed and wooed the locals!
